day 88 - 06/06

after a restful night in rutland, i made the long climb up killington mt. it is so beautiful when one gets into higher elevations in new england. killington is not high enough to be above the treeline, but the last mile or so is this enchanted evergreen forest. it just feels magical. on and off rain all day, but it just made the sun so much better. i decided to push it a little today and go to stony brook shelter. i always tend to do this after a restful day. i also passed a sign for katadhin, my ending point, indicating the five hundred mile mark to the end. see the pic below. i can't believe how fast it has gone by. i am already starting to get nostalgic even though the toughest part is coming up. the motto on the trail is: "you've gone more than 3/4 of the way, but done less than 1/2 the work!" the real hiking starts in the whites of nh. i also passed mile 1700 today. go me! 27.4mi from rutland to stony brook shelter. 1705.9 total.
