day 86 - 06/04

so wet. so very, very, very wet. it has rained pretty much steadily for the last three days. and it's cold! maybe in the low 40s! i keep waking up wondering if i somehow got transported back to the smokies in march. the trail is also just one long stretch of mud so the strategy is this very intricate rock jumping game. i actually love it. i know, i am weird. it is just so very meditative cuz it takes so much focus to not go flying into the air and hurting oneself. also, i think because of hurricane irene last year there are lots of parts that are just under water and not yet repaired. so i just ford rivers and ponds without taking my shoes off. there is no point, my feet just get wet anyway. today i actually stood in a stream to get the mud off my shoes and socks. oh, and to possibly, even though it is wishful thinking, wash away the extremely odiferous wet dog smell that has become my footwear. why, might you ask, after reading this would i still continue to hike? it really isn't just cuz i want to finish something i started. i really thought about this today, cuz as you can imagine i have copious amounts of time to think, and the answer truly is just cuz i love it. i think when one chooses to go with the flow of something instead of fighting against the natural rhythm, all is just well and copacetic. so wet, smelly shoes and all and i'm still a smiling fool. 22.6mi from bromely to greenwall shelter. 1670.7 total.
