day 83 - 06/01

it's june already! wow. time flies when you are completely blissful. what a beautiful day of hiking. i made it to vermont, which is my 12th state! see the pic below. i have actually joined the long trail and will share the trail with long trail hikers until killington where it splits off and goes to quebec. it is supposedly the oldest long distance trail in the us, which is why it was called the long trail even though it is only 273mi long. i was lured into the town of bennington and had a great dinner at a local place called madison brewing co. i ordered a burger and a 25oz local beer and the waitress told me a couple at the bar took care of my beer - see pic below. thanx to dan and jen i enjoyed an awesome local beer with my dinner. apparently dan thru-hiked the trail before and therefore recognized my scraggly, weary hiker getup. just further proof of the amazing kindness and generosity that i encounter every day. they are also very soon to be new parents, so thank you and congrats to dan and jen! i the made my way up the trail just 1.8mi to the melville nauheim shelter, as it is expected to rain hard all night. yay dry shelter! oh, and i have gone 1600mi as of today. 18.4mi from sherman brook to melville shelter. 1607.6 total.
